Have you ever been asked for an Accountant’s Certificate of Confirmation?

It’s not only for visa applications — rental agreements, loan applications, and even certain financial reviews may require an official Accountant’s Certificate of Confirmation issued by a recognised accountant.

What is an Accountant’s Certificate of Confirmation?

This is an official document issued by a qualified accountant confirming that we have handled your accounts and tax filings, and can verify your income sources and financial activity.

This is not a standard income certificate and cannot be replaced by a self-printed tax record. Many banks, landlords, and even government bodies only accept formal confirmation letters issued by professionally qualified accountants.

According to the Home Office’s financial evidence requirements, an Accountant’s Certificate of Confirmation must be issued by an accountant with specific recognised credentials.

We are a registered practising member of the Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA), which qualifies us to issue this type of document.
A UKVI guidance screenshot is attached for reference. Note that requirements vary depending on the type of visa and may be updated at any time. Not all visas, cases, or applicants will have the same requirements. It is your responsibility to verify what applies to your situation.

Why prepare early?

Most accountants will only issue such confirmation to long-standing clients with whom they have an established working relationship. If an accountant has not handled a taxpayer’s filings in recent years, issuing a certificate without proper understanding may breach professional and compliance standards.

That’s why building a consistent working relationship with your accountant is essential. The confirmation letter we issue will also indicate when our cooperation with you began.

Why act now?

The UK government has recently stated it will review its immigration system. In some future applications, your financial records and economic activity in the UK may carry greater weight in assessments.

Even if you currently have no plans to apply for immigration or a change of visa status, you may at some point need to provide financial records to banks, landlords, government bodies, or other institutions. Please prepare early.

Whether or not an Accountant’s Certificate of Confirmation is required depends on the type of application. Please confirm independently whether it applies to you, or consult your immigration solicitor for legal advice.

How to prepare?

We recommend that from now on, you ensure we assist you with: Annual Self Assessment tax returns; Organising income and financial records; and, Compliance checks and tax planning advice. This way, when you do require formal confirmation, we can issue a qualified and accurate document without delay.
