Companies House has issued an important update to its guidance on identity verification, following amendments to The Registrar’s (Requirements Applicable to Electronic Form Documents) Rules 2022.
The update clarifies the process for correcting errors in identity verification information where incorrect details were submitted, whether due to typographical errors, incorrect source data, or processing issues. Let our compliance expert to guide you through t he newly procedure.
Under the new regime, individuals who have completed identity verification — including where verification was carried out by an accountant or other professional — are not locked into incorrect information if an error is later identified.
If details such as a name, date of birth, or other personal identifiers were entered incorrectly, Companies House has confirmed that these can be amended using the prescribed correction procedure, rather than requiring a fresh verification from the start.
This applies equally where:
The correction process is handled in accordance with Companies House’s updated electronic filing rules, and includes submissions made by an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) acting on behalf of a client.
Companies House has also confirmed that a technical issue affected a number of correction submissions filed before the end of December 2025. As a result, some forms could not be processed.
The issue has now been resolved, and no new submissions are affected.
However, where a correction was submitted during that period and no confirmation of acceptance or rejection has been received, the submission may need to be filed again.
In such cases, Companies House has asked that the relevant correction form (ACSP04) be resubmitted, with the free-text section clearly stating that the filing is a second submission. This helps Companies House identify and prioritise the case.
If a confirmation email and reference number were issued at the time of the original submission:
Where an error is preventing a client from completing identity verification, or where a filing deadline is approaching, Companies House has indicated that urgent cases can be reviewed and prioritised on request.
Errors in identity verification details do not mean the process has failed. Companies House has confirmed that corrections can be made through the proper procedure, and that affected submissions from late 2025 can now be dealt with following resolution of the technical issue.
As with all Companies House filings, timely follow-up and accurate resubmission are important to avoid unnecessary delays.
